Middlesex County

Over the years, I have had the chance to visit and agri-food producers all over the county and can personally vouch for the amazing local food system much of which is profiled at http://handstotable.ca.

A large and detailed lapel pin. The top half is a rectangular shape with the dates 1832 and 1846 in the top corners. The majority of the rectangle is an image of the sun with large sunbeams rising over a scene with rolling hills, a road leading to a city, and farm buildings. TO the left of the scene is a cutout with a sheaf of wheat and the words small in size. To the right of the scene is a cutout with a heron and the words great in in spirit. The bottom of the pin is a large white banner with a red maple leaf, a white and green trillium, and the words Township of Adelaide Metcalfe 2001.

Adelaide Metcalfe

The Mac Cuddy Botanic Garden in Adelaide Metcalfe has over 6 acres of gardens as one of Ontario’s most diverse plant collections including endangered species. It's a “living classroom” for Fanshawe College horticulture students.

London, City of

London: the best hometown I have ever had.

Originally intended to be capital of Upper Canada until Toronto swooped in and stole our thunder.

Home of the oldest operating baseball park in Canada.

An older lapel pin for the City of London. (It's been on my sister's Christmas stocking since the 90s).

A lapel pin with a beaver in front of a shamrock. At the top of the pin are words reading “EST. 1999”. At the bottom is a banner with the words “Township of Lucan Biddulph”.

Lucan Biddulph, Township of

Lucan Biddulph was home to the Wilberforce Colony. Around 200 Black refugees settled. It was one of the first settlements established by the American Colonization Society to settle those arriving on the Underground Railroad.

Middlesex Centre, Township of

The community of Ilderton is located in MIddlesex Centre and his home of Olympic and World Champion ice dancer Scott Moir.

The lower left circle depicts a manual plow in a field. The lower right circle depicts a howling wolf. On either side of the circles is a leafy branch. At the top of the pin is a banner reading "Municipality of". At the bottom of the pin is a banner reading "Middlesex Centre". Between the circles and the bottom banner is the date 1998.

A lapel pin with the words "North Middlesex". The letter 'O' is a compass. To the right of the word "North" are two leaves - one drawn as a regular leaf, the other drawn to appear as farm fields.

North Middlesex seems to have a need for speed!

Its village Ailsa Craig was home to Earl Ross, the first non-American to win a NASCAR Cup Series race, and John Campbell, one of the youngest members of the harness horse racing hall of fame.

Southwest Middlesex is home to the George Ward Commemorative Barn Quilt Trail: 30 barn quilts telling the story of the Ward family leaving their home in Ireland to start a new life in Canada.

Strathroy-Caradoc, Township of

Strathroy-Caradoc’s local industries include turkey hatching. The number of hatcheries have resulted in the community being referred to as the turkey capital of Canada or the world which reportedly produce over 25% of the world’s turkeys.

Thames Centre, Municipality of

Thames Centre’s Mill Pond is a historic location of several Attawandaron settlements. Remains of the sites have been uncovered along what is now a 3.3 trail showcasing flora and fauna of the region's Carolinian forest biome.
