A lapel pin for the former Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton which existed from 1969 to 2001 before being restructured into the City of Ottawa.
Carleton was named for Sir Guy Carleton, the governor of Quebec from 1768 to 1778, and later governor-in-chief of British North America from 1786 to 1796.
The former City of Nepean was named after Sir Evan Nepean, a British Undersecretary of State who held responsibility for British North American correspondence but is more well-known for operating a network of spies across Europe before a formal intelligence service was established. The City of Nepean was amalgamated with the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton in 2001 and became part of today’s City of Ottawa.
