My favourite Toronto story is the circus riot of 1855 where a travelling circus troupe broke into a brawl with the Hook and Ladder Firefighting Company over a dispute at a local brothel. The firefighters called in some friends from the Orange Order who just so happened to also be police officers who joined in the fighting. When the dust settled and the police were called to investigate, it seemed that nobody could remember anything about a riot - only 17 people were charged and none were convicted. This was one in a series of similar events where the police covered up criminal acts committed by members of the Orange Order that led to early police reform including the entire police force being fired, a new force being created from the ground up, and the creation of the civilian Police Board to oversee the new force.

Metropolitan Toronto was an upper-tier municipality from 1953-1998 before being amalgamated into the single-tier City of Toronto.
Scarborough was incorporated as a municipality in 1850, became a city 1983, and was amagamated into the City of Toronto in 1998.
